The Els Club was designed by South African golf superstar Ernie Els, one of the most prolific winners of his generation, with four Major Championships and two World Golf Championships under his belt. Nicknamed the “Big Easy” because of his grand stature and fluid golf swing, Els is one of only six golfers to twice win both the U.S. Open and The Open Championship and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2011.
Ernie Els designed The Els Club to be his dream course by taking his favorites elements from courses around the world: bunkers from Royal Melbourne, greens resembling Pinehurst No. 2 and wide, rolling links fairways. The “desert links” course features pleasing undulations and strong elevation changes for visual and strategic interest. Extensive use of sandy waste areas and native grasses and vegetation between wide fairways, along with a classic style of bunkering, add to the links effect.

The Butch Harmon School of Golf was opened in January 2009 by Claude Harmon III, who carries the family’s golfing excellence to the third generation. As leaders and pioneers in golf coaching, Claude and his father Butch Harmon – voted Golf Digest’s top instructor for 12 consecutive years – have collectively worked with some of the game’s most famous players, including Phil Mickelson, Fred Couples, Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, Adam Scott and Ernie Els.
Butch Harmon’s philosophy is based on helping each student understand his or her own unique game. Experienced coaches complement their training with state-of-the-art computer and video equipment. Programs include private coaching, group coaching, team coaching, physical coaching, a junior golf program and fitness for golf. The school is currently run by Justin Parsons, a qualified PGA Professional who played on the Mastercard Tour full time for two years and coached Michael Hoey to a win on the 2013 European Tour.
